Breeding & Promoting Tru Versatility

Dan and I, along with our sons Ethan & Oliver, our crazy Vizslas, our gorgeous horses, our birds and one nekkid Sphynx kitty are the eclectic group that make up Tru Vizslas!

Dan and I both wanted to own a Vizsla before we even met. Dan used to baby sit a V boy named Bazil who used to kick him out of bed. I had a friend who rescued a Vizsla from out of state and I knew from the first time I saw her that I would one day own one of these beautiful dogs! While Dan and I were dating I decided to bring Tru into my life. We then became engaged and Desi soon followed as a birthday gift to me. Our son Ethan was born into the family on Feb 4, 2005 and was soon followed by Oliver on April 24, 2008.

Our dogs are spoiled rotten to the core and get the best of everything that we can give to them. They are fed a grain free raw diet which I prepare myself. I also rotate various supplements to provide optimum nutrition. I have the dogs on a limited vaccination schedule for the best health. When feeding raw is not permissible, we feed Arcana (by Orijen) and Honest Kitchen dehydrated raw. Currently we use Dr. Meiser at Animal Care and Reproductive service for all of the dogs health care needs. She supports our commitment for raw feeding and reduced vaccinations. She has not only saved Tru's life, but Desi's as well. For our holistic vet needs we see Dr. Wozny in Ohio several times a year.

Our dogs are always in a variety of training (field, obedience, agility, conformation, tracking, etc.) and both Dan and I work them regularly for Field Trials and Hunt Tests. Randy Boggs of Snow Ridge Vizslas and Mark Smith of Remark Kennels help with work the dogs for field trials. Diane Engelking of King's Kennels is our professional show handler and while Desi is in field training, Mark's wife Becky handles her in the show ring. Our dogs are our passion and we love to work with them!

We are members of the Vizsla Club of Illinois (VCOI), the Lake Superior Vizsla Club (LSVC), the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) and have an application for membership into the Vizsla Club of America (VCA). Jodi was the secretary of the VCOI for several years and has secretaried Hunt Tests, Field Trials and has helped run the VCOI informational booth at several events. Jodi chaired Double Bubble Fun Days for three years - this is the VCOI's biggest event. Dan gets to be Jodi's right hand man in all of the things she volunteers for! We are always educating ourselves on our breed and the activities we enjoy. We have lots of friends in the Vizsla world whom we spend time with too.

Why did we pick the kennel name of "Tru Vizslas"? Well when we were deciding on a name for Desi a friend suggested to use "Tru" in her name, just like in Tru's name. We thought about it and decided that it fit our philosophy very well. Both Dan and I believe in true versatility in our breed and strive for that in both of our dogs. It was also a way to honor Tru since he was our first Vizsla.. that is when Tru Vizslas was born! We work and breed for "Tru" versatility.

We always appreciate feedback about our site. Feel free to email Jodi or Dan.
