Cappy's Story

Cappy ... What a wonderful blend of his dam and sire. Handsome and a gentleman like his father, Cassidy. Playful with attitude like his mother, Dawn. Cappy finished his AKC championship, breeder/owner handled, at the age of 11 months with 3 majors. The day he finished, he got his first group placement. We showed him sparingly while he was maturing yet he earned several Best of Breeds, a Specialty Award of Merit and a Vizsla Club of America National Award of Merit during this time. He also earned the first leg of his AKC Junior Hunter title in spite of his novice owner/handler. Cappy’s best friend during that time was Kylie, our granddaughter. They played dress up and “dog show” for hours at a time. Kylie held Cappy for the first time when she was a year old and he was just a newborn. They still squeal with joy when they hear the other one come into the house.

Cappy met his handler, Holley Eldred, in March of 2005 and a wonderful partnership was formed. Cappy gets his bath on Wednesday or Thursday and then we head for Holley’s house. He runs to the van and then to her door to give Holley and her Mom, Pauline, kisses when he arrives. Off to the shows and back on Monday, he runs to my arms and gives me kisses when I pick him up. The best of two worlds.

Sometimes Carl picks him up from Holley’s and they stop by the Veterans Administration Clinic on the way home to pick up Carl’s medication or visit with the everyone at the clinic. As Carl’s Service Dog, Cappy also get to go shopping with Carl and manages to charm almost everyone he meets.

As of March 1, 2006, Cappy’s one year accomplishments include: 80+ Best of Breeds, 19 Goup Placements including 4 Group Ones, 2 Best in Specialty Shows and a Westminster Kennel Club 2006 Award of Merit. AKC March 1, 2006 rating list Cappy as #1 All Breed Vizsla and #1 Male Breed Vizsla.

The Vizsla is one of the “Versatile Breeds” and Cappy with his accomplishments in the show ring, the hunting field, the Service Dog arena and as a little girl’s dress up buddy easily deserves that title.
